World Museum

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Liverpool, The world in one city
Another impressive neoclassical monument is the World Museum of Liverpool and Central Library. This world museum is the city’s largest. It is a national institution, so once again entry is free. If you’d like to take a stroll through the marvellous archaeological, ethnological and natural science collections, or go stargazing in the planetarium, this is the place to be. Just next to the entrance, you’ll see a sort carpet with plenty of things written on it. If you look closely, you’ll recognize titles of famous books. You’ll notice that some letters are in red. They form a puzzle revealing the title of a particular article in the library. This mysterious granite overhang leads you to Liverpool’s largest library, known as the Central Library. Be sure to take a look inside if you’re curious – you’ll be surprised! The library was rebuilt in 2008 and has won a number of awards, featuring modern buildings and a futuristic-looking atrium topped by a glass dome in which the intertwined staircases seem to disappear. And if you start poking around its stalls, it will keep you busy for hours. You’ll find an impressive selection of books, CDs and DVDs, as well as a vast collection of rare books, on display in the Treasure Room. It also offers access to free Wi-Fi and 150 computers and iPads. They can always come in handy. Last but not least, if you want a panoramic view of Liverpool without having to pay for an activity or access to the top of a tower, then sit on its roof terrace and admire the view!
