Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Lisbon, The City of Seven Hills
Welcome to Martim Moniz Square, named after a Portuguese knight who sacrificed his life in the 12th century. This is the starting point of the famous Tramway no. 28, a true landmark of Lisbon. With a seating capacity of 58, this streetcar connects Martim Moniz square to the Prazeres district. It first ran in 1914 and serves some of Lisbon’s most visited districts over a 7-kilometre route. It’s known here as the Electrico 28, and it’s actually not the first electric streetcar in Lisbon – the first ones were put into service in 1901. The reason it’s so famous is that it’s associated with a very special legend. They say that, a long time ago, it granted the dearest wish of a very old lady to walk again without her crutches. So if you do get the chance to ride it, don’t forget to make a wish once you’re inside! The Electrico 28 also takes you past some of the city’s greatest monuments, such as the Cathedral and the Graça Convent, the must-see districts of Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama, and some of its loveliest viewpoints.
