São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Lisbon, The City of Seven Hills
There’s no shortage of viewpoints in this city, built on hills overlooking the Tagus River that flows through Portugal. They offer breathtaking panoramas and allow you to see Lisbon in a whole new light. This is one of them, known as São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint. From here, you can see the tiled roofs of the Baixa district and the Saint George’s Castle, perched atop the hill. Built in the 5th century by the Visigoths, it was expanded in the 9th century and was home to the kings of Portugal between the 13th and 16th centuries. Unfortunately, part of it was destroyed in an earthquake, and it was abandoned altogether for almost two centuries. It was only restored in 1938 by Salazar, President of the Council of Ministers, and is now a popular tourist attraction.
