Cais das Colunas

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Lisbon, The City of Seven Hills
This is the port of call for countless famous figures, including Queen Elizabeth II and heads of state from across the globe. You see, Lisbon is not bordered by the ocean, but by the Tagus, the longest river on the Iberian Peninsula. This is the only beach in the city – a very small one, admittedly, but still a great place to take a breath of fresh air and catch some sun! This small waterfront square is known as Cais das Colunas, meaning Quay of Columns, named after the two pillars found here. They’re are reminiscent of the pillars of Solomon’s Temple, the first one to be built in Jerusalem, according to the Bible. Locals come here for a stroll along the Tagus, to soak up the cool breeze and the calming sound of the waves.
