This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Le Havre, The Ocean Gateway

Welcome to one of the widest avenues in Europe: Avenue Foch, designed by Auguste Perret. Stretching from City Hall all the way to the sea, this urban promenade is lined with striking modern buildings.

Inspired by the Champs-Élysées in Paris, which it is even wider than, Avenue Foch is one of Le Havre’s busiest streets. It also showcases some of Perret’s finest architectural work, with rows of five-storey buildings on either side designed by the master himself.

Take a closer look and you’ll spot stone bas-reliefs on some façades, depicting key moments in the city’s history and honouring notable figures from Le Havre.
