City Hall
This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Le Havre, The Ocean Gateway
Before we dive into this emblematic square in the heart of Le Havre, it’s worth remembering that the city was almost entirely rebuilt after World War II, after bombings that devastated its centre. Today, reinforced concrete reigns supreme in Le Havre.
In front of you is a prime example: the City Hall. Inaugurated in 1958 on the site of the original building, this monumental structure features a tower rising over 70 metres and a façade stretching 143 metres, making it one of the city’s largest landmarks. Listed as a “20th-Century Heritage” site, the building never goes unnoticed, and it definitely sparks debate.
Love it or hate it, one thing’s certain, Le Havre’s City Hall is anything but ordinary!
