Neufliers alley

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Laon, The crowned mountain
You may have noticed that the city of Laon loves to decorate and brighten up its streets. If you’ve been here during the summer, you may have had the chance to walk through streets decorated with multicolored umbrellas, floating silver ribbons, or some other installation they’ve come up with to add a splash of color and cheer to the often gray skies of northern France. You’re now walking down Neufliers alley, where street art meets classical art. The trompe-l’œil paintings on the walls are the work of local artist Pierre Grenier. All along this 50-metre-long alleyway, he has painted characters who have marked the city’s history over the centuries. In the center, you’ll see a smiling horseman – it’s the painter’s self-portrait waving hello!
