The Two Mills Gate

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit La Rochelle, The White City
The Two Mills Gate is the oldest gateway to the town. It was initially built in 1200 as the gateway to the old town during the Middle Ages. Although it was fortified and then destroyed in 1628 along with the town’s ramparts, it was rebuilt at the same time as the Fort des Dames opposite two mills. Although the mills no longer exist, they gave the gateway its current name.
