Gabut district

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit La Rochelle, The White City
No, you’re not dreaming, you’re still in La Rochelle! Welcome to Gabut district. A unique neighbourhood that makes you wonder if you haven’t just moved to another town, or even another country… The highly metropolitan Gabut district sharply contrasts with the old white stones that make up the historic site. The colourful wooden houses are reminiscent of those in Scandinavia, even though we’re in the heart of La Rochelle! Built in the 90s, this charming little neighbourhood features houses, restaurants and offices. It becomes very lively during summer, when local residents gather to enjoy a drink and a game of pétanque. The neighbourhood is also a popular spot for street artists, particularly taggers, who create magnificent works of street art that blend brilliantly with the local colours. A real touch of modernity just a stone’s throw from the Old Port!
