This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Krakow, Little Poland

Welcome to the charming and peaceful square in front of the Palace of Arts. The grand building ahead was built in the early 20th century in Viennese Secession style, for the Society of Friends of Fine Arts, founded about fifty years earlier. If you take a closer look at the façade, you’ll notice a golden frieze created by the avant-garde painter Jacek Malczewski—whose bust sits in the centre. The frieze represents the different stages of an artist’s life. On one side, you’ll see joyful figures; on the other, sorrowful ones. Busts of Poland’s greatest painters and sculptors line the sides of the building, as well as a depiction of Apollo, the patron of the arts, framed by a glowing sun halo. The museum charges admission, and hosts exhibitions showcasing major names in Polish art. Outside, the modern fountain adds a playful touch and is a main part of evening light shows. While the square remains quiet by day, it comes alive around the café terraces at night.
