Callejón de Hámel

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Havana, El Vedado: Havana’s timeless elegance
Tucked away off the beaten path, Callejón de Hamel is one of Havana’s most unique alleyways. Like an open-air urban gallery, the eclectic Cuban folk art brings together both locals and tourists. About 200 metres long, most of the pieces were created by self-taught artist Salvador González Escalona, who began transforming the space in the 1990s. Blending murals, poetic texts, and objects, his style draws inspiration from Africa, Spain, and Asia. No matter which way you turn, you’ll spot rich and multicultural details at every corner. While visual art dominates the scene, the alley bursts into life with concerts and dance performances—especially on Sundays.
