Promenade de la Treille

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Geneva, The Little Big Capital
Welcome to the Promenade de la Treille—Geneva’s oldest promenade, with a charming view over Bastions Park just below. This walkway was originally built in 1515 as part of the city’s fortifications, used to keep watch over the surrounding area.
Over time, trees were planted here, including the beautiful chestnut trees that have lined the path since the 18th century. Among them, there’s one very special chestnut tree that’s closely observed each day—it’s used as the city’s official marker of spring, with the first bud signaling the season’s arrival. You’ll spot it on your right, just across from the old tower that stands out among the buildings.
Also there’s another record worth noting here, this promenade is home to the longest wooden bench in the world! At 120 meters long, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect place to sit and take in the view.
