Machine Bridge

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Geneva, The Little Big Capital
And here we are at another of Geneva’s iconic bridges—this one is the Pont de la Machine.
It takes you across the Rhône River, which now flows freely after Lake Geneva ends just before, at the Mont-Blanc Bridge. What makes this bridge stand out is the fact that it’s the oldest structure to span the Rhône in Geneva. It gets its name from the ‘hydraulic machine’ built beside it in 1843—a vital piece of infrastructure for the city at the time.
With its esplanade by the water, the bridge also offers a peaceful spot to pause and take in the calm rhythm of the river below.
