Viewpoint of Dunkirk Lighthouse

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dunkerque, The City of Jean Bart
Another iconic feature of the city — where there’s a port, there’s a lighthouse! From here, you can admire the Risban Lighthouse, classified as a Historic Monument. At 63 meters tall, it’s the sixth tallest lighthouse in France. Originally, a fort — Fort Risban — stood here, along with a first lighthouse built in 1683. The fort was demolished within a few decades, and the lighthouse was later destroyed by a storm in 1825. The current structure was built in 1842 and lit in 1843, on the ruins of the old Vauban fort. Today, it’s open to visitors — but only on select days, so be sure to check ahead before planning your visit. The climb is well worth it for the breathtaking views of the city, the coastline, and the sea.
