St. John’s Fortress

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dubrovnik, The pearl of the Adriatic
Look to your right… You should spot a stone structure with a flag on the top standing along the pier. This is St John’s Fortress, one of Dubrovnik’s most important defensive structures. Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it was designed to protect the city’s port from naval attacks. Today, you can get closer to it for beautiful views over the Adriatic Sea. Since 1949, it has also housed the Maritime Museum, which retraces the region’s maritime history across 15 collections with over 11,000 objects.
