St. Ignatius Church

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dubrovnik, The pearl of the Adriatic
After climbing the grand staircase, you’ve arrived at one of Dubrovnik’s most beloved landmarks, St. Ignatius Church. Built between 1699 and 1729, the church was inspired by the blueprints of Rome’s famous Church of the Gesù. It’s named after the Jesuit priest Ignatius of Loyola, who generously funded much of its construction. You may notice an empty niche on its bright and elegant façade… This space was reserved for a statue, but the ship transporting it sank at sea, and the niche has remained empty ever since. Inside, you’ll discover colourful frescoes and a replica of the Grotto of Lourdes. Before you ask, entry is free!
