The Old City Walls

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dubrovnik, The pearl of the Adriatic
We can’t let you go before telling you about one of Dubrovnik’s most iconic landmarks… The old city walls. Built between the 8th and 16th centuries, these fortifications protected the city for hundreds of years — although the Republic of Ragusa often preferred diplomacy over war when dealing with rivals. The old walls span around 2km, and its highest points reach 25 metres. They were declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1970, and it’s no wonder — after all these centuries, the walls are still standing strong and remain incredibly well preserved!
