Dubai Creek

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dubaï, The Old Town
Khor Dubai means “Dubai River”, though it’s more commonly known as Dubai Creek. This natural saltwater creek, reaching into the desert, played a key role in the city’s development as it allowed the construction of a port. It became one of the most important in the region at the beginning of the 20th century, allowing trade to flourish with other cities and countries, notably India and African nations. Today, the creek separates the two oldest districts of Dubai — Deira and Bur Dubai. Now a major tourist destination, the old port offers traditional boat rides where you can admire some of the main landmarks in this part of the city.
