Fine Arts Museum

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Dole, The birthplace of Louis Pasteur
Built in the 18th century, the building before you was once the Officers’ Pavilion, part of the former Castle of Dole. It’s a fine example of 18th-century Franche-Comté architecture. The Fine Arts Museum was formerly housed in the Collège de l’Arc, a little further into town. But as the collection grew throughout the 19th century, they needed a larger, more functional place to display the paintings, sculptures and other objects housed there. And so, the Officers’ Pavilion was renovated by Louis Miquel, a pupil of the famous architect Le Corbusier, to house the museum in 1980. It’s well worth a visit, allowing visitors to discover the history of Dole through works of art created between the 16th and 19th centuries. There is also a section dedicated to contemporary art for a more modern perspective. The museum is ranked among France’s 50 best museums, so be sure to stop by and discover all that the city has to offer!
