Fine Arts Museum

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Dijon, Capital of Burgundy
Dijon’s Fine Arts Museum is one of the oldest and richest in France. It was founded in 1787, with the primary aim of collecting works that would serve as models for students atof the drawing school. The museum is adjacent to the Palace, in the former Duke’s residence, and bears witness to the rich heritage of the Dukes of Burgundy. It is in this museum that we find the tombs of Philip the Bold and John the Fearless, two of the dukes who played a key role in the history of Burgundy. These incomparably rich tombs are each surrounded by mourners, sculpted statuettes lamenting the loss of their dukes. They are undoubtedly the reason for the museum’s fame, as they are considered to be some of the finest funerary monuments of the Middle Ages. In addition to these famous tombs, nestling in the sumptuous palace hall, the museum houses collections of ancient and medieval art, as well as contemporary art – in short, more than 130,000 masterpieces from various periods. It’s the perfect place to discover the history and culture of Burgundy through art, in the heart of one of France’s most symbolic palaces! And the good news is that there is no entrance fee to the museum!
