Émile Zola square

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Dijon, Capital of Burgundy
This is Emile Zola Square, a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Surrounded by bars and restaurants, this square is popular with gourmets, but also with revellers, who take advantage of this slightly out-of-the-way spot in the town centre to enjoy a drink. In the Middle Ages, the square was the site of one of Dijon’s markets and, until the 19th century, was the venue for public executions. In 1921, it was renamed Emile Zola, replacing its former name, Morimond Square, in reference to a hotel that once stood there and belonged to the Morimond Abbey.
