London Mansion

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Dieppe, Against wind and tide
The Alabaster coast, known to the french as La Côte d’Albâtre, which streches from Le Tréport to Le Havre has traditionally been associated with seaside resorts. A historic leader in the field since 1824 in France, Dieppe was the preferred destination for the Parisian and English aristocracy for the new trend of sea bathing. To accommodate all these travellers, some of whom were renowned, a number of luxury mansions sprang up on the seafront and in the town centre, as seen here on the Henri IV quay. These charming establishments have contributed to the growing reputation of the area. Although almost all of them disappeared from the landscape as a result of war and mass tourism, you can still spot one of them, the former London mansion, with its distinctive white statues on the façade. It is even said that Eugène Delacroix often visited the hotel to paint his most beautiful canvases of the Dieppe countryside. Surely, we would have loved to see that!
