Copenhagen City Hall

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Copenhagen, A Scandinavian jewel
Opposite from Tivoli Gardens, the City Hall was built in 1905 by Danish architect Martin Nyrop. As surprising as it can be, this means that Tivoli was here before the City Hall! Made in a neo-Renaissance style, this building went through many historical events. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that it displays Denmark’s biodiversity, such as jellyfishes, seagulls, or crows all discreetly portrayed on the building front. Please enter inside this somptuous building where you’ll discover the Entrance Hall, decorated of paintings, Danish flags and a glass roof lighting up the most beautiful room in the City Hall. You’ll also find an ancient astronomical clock with many functions: it reveals a perpetual calendar, solar and lunar eclipses, and all time zones. A real wonder within this big building, it amazes visitors every time. People also come to see the City Hall Tower, where you can get a good view of Copenhagen when climbing to its top, standing 105 meters high. By the way, it’s one of the city’s tallest buildings! So don’t be scared, except if you have a fear of heights, to get to the top and enjoy this beautiful view. Beware, 300 steps await you!
