Christiansborg Palace

14 chateau de christiansborg poi grand

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Copenhagen, A Scandinavian jewel

This castle has lived through 9 centuries to be standing here today in the centre of Copenhagen. Built in the 12th century, it was the Royal Family’s residence for many centuries. Know that Christianborg Palace has transformed over time. It was first a medieval fortress with moats and strong walls, of which you can still find in the palace when visiting. As kings came and went, the castle changed, until it was partly destroyed in the 1794 fire, leading to the monarchs moving to Amalienborg Palace, then again in 1884. It was completed in 1928 after many years of reconstruction and renovation, taking its final form as you see it today. Today, it houses the Danish Parliament, as well as the executive and judiciary powers. So you’ve probably guessed it, this is the only building in the world to welcome all branches of the government at once. Entering this palace will undoubtedly transport you back into time! Inside, you’ll find ruins from the medieval fortress, royal rooms, stables and even the King and Queen’s private apartment. This is the perfect moment to discover the daily life of a Royal member at the time! That, and admiring luxurious furniture, a testimony to the Danish monarchs’ wealth. Don’t miss out on visiting the tower, for free, where you’ll get a good view of the city from above ground. A real jewel in Copenhagen, this castle is an absolute must-see!
