Rue des Tanneurs – Tanners’ Street

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Colmar, On the road to Alsace
You’re now walking down Rue des Tanneurs, the Tanners’ Street, which marks the entrance to the neighborhood of the same name. As its name suggests, it was once home to the city’s leatherworkers, who were only allowed to work here. Just like the rest of the city and region, this street is lined with tall, half-timbered houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. This is where the tanners’ families lived. It’s truly impossible not to fall under the spell of this picturesque street!
