This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Colmar, On the road to Alsace
Take a look to your right. This eye-catching building is the House of Heads, famous for the 106 heads carved into its impressive facade. It’s one of Colmar’s best-known landmarks and it’s listed as a Historic Monument. It was built in 1609 for Anton Burger, a local councillor and active member of the community. The edifice is a fine example of German Renaissance architecture and stands out thanks to its flamboyant color and its gable decorated with volutes and buttresses. At the very top, there’s a statue of a cooper sculpted by the famous Auguste Bartholdi. To put it simply, this charming house never fails to impress!
