SkyDeck Chicago Willis Tower

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Chicago, Windy City a Michigan Beauty
You know well that a city full of skyscrapers, each taller than the other, inevitably offers numerous spectacular viewpoints. In Chicago, there is the Willis Tower, which you may have known by its former name, the Sears Tower. It was the tallest building in the world for 25 years and the tallest in the United States for 40 years before being surpassed by the One World Trade Center in New York in 2013. Of course, since the inauguration of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, all height records in all categories have been sent back to the closet. The Willis Tower is still the third tallest building in the United States, and at its peak, the highest point in Illinois, there are TV and radio antennas, because let’s be honest, that’s where the reception is best! If you wish, you can go to the 103rd floor, where the Skydeck is located, it is the highest observatory in the country and one of the most popular attractions in Chicago, with about 1.7 million visitors who come to admire the view each year. On windy days, you can feel the building sway slightly. If you are scared of hights, forget about coming up here! For others, you can enjoy a view of the skyline and fully glassed sections giving you the impression of walking in the void! But that’s nothing in terms of thrills when you know that two climbers made the ascent! In 1981, Dan Goodwin, dressed as Spider-Man, climbed the tower using suction cups! Despite numerous attempts by firefighters to stop him, he succeeded in the first outdoor ascent of the tower! He was nicknamed the Skyscraper man; he also climbed the World Trade Center and the CN Tower in Toronto! In 1999, it was the turn of French climber Alain Robert, known as the French Spiderman, to tackle the tower’s ascent. He succeeded without equipment or protection! Towards the end of his ascent, thick fog enveloped the sky, making the walls of the last 20 floors terribly slippery! Doesn’t it give you chills? It goes without saying, do not try it yourself!
