City Hall

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Chicago, Windy City a Michigan Beauty
The imposing neoclassical building you’ve just walked past and left behind is Chicago’s City Hall. This is where you’ll find the office of the mayor, clerk and treasurer, as well as several municipal services and the chambers of the Chicago City Council. Across from you, in a completely different style to anything you’ve seen today, is the Thompson Center and The Standing Beast statue. It was created by Jean Dubuffet, a French painter and sculptor who achieved great success on the American art market. The statue is one of 19 works of art commissioned and funded by the State of Illinois Art in Architecture program. It’s supposed to represent a standing animal, a tree, a gate and an architectural form, but locals affectionately nickname it “Snoopy in a blender”!
