Chapelle Vaugelas

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Chambéry, The historic capital of Savoy
You are passing by the small chapel of the Vaugelas High School located just behind. This chapel is the only remains of the Visitation convent founded in 1610 by Saint Francis de Sales. Its beautiful Baroque facade has been listed as a historical monument since 1950. Just behind you will find the Vaugelas High School, the first to be opened in Savoy after its annexation to France. It is named in honor of Claude Favre de Vaugelas, one of the first members of the French Academy, specializing in grammar. Among its famous students, you can find, Maurice Opinel, the grandson of the inventor of the iconic folding knife found everywhere in Savoy and chairman of the company, or Nans Peter, a cyclist who won the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, and also the journalist and television producer Yann Barthès. You can step inside the chapel, which sometimes hosts artistic exhibitions.
