Maison de l’Ambassadeur – Former Ambassador’s House

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Carcassonne, A Citadel among the Clouds
We’ll take a left here, but for those up for a little detour, you can continue a little further down the Aimé Ramond Street, to find the Former Ambassador’s House at number 50, on your left. As its name suggests, the building was once home to Henri-Auguste Ourmet, the French ambassador to Finland in 1988. Notice its beautifully sculpted facade and wrought-iron balcony, designed by architect Etienne Gordien and sculptor Joseph Guilhem. They’re both fine examples of the Art Nouveau style. The building is truly a window into Carcassonne’s rich past. No wonder it’s a listed historical monument! It was abandoned for some twenty years, but was recently repurchased and transformed into a stunning bed and breakfast. Don’t miss this bonus stop!
