Meynadier Street

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Cannes, The Riviera’s Red Carpet
Is it possible to combine shopping and history in the same visit? Of course it is ! You can do that as you stroll down one of the oldest streets in the city: Rue Meynadier. Originally opened in the 16th century under the name “Grand-Rue,” it once served as the main road toward Antibes, the seaside town located about 11 kilometres from here. Far from the glitz and glamour, this central Cannes street has long been known for its strong commercial character — a tradition dating back to the early 20th century. What began with food-related trades gradually evolved into a charming mix of independent shops. One of the oldest, still open today, is Tesi Hatmakers, founded in 1882 at the corner of Rue Blanc. You’ve just walked past it. Run by the same family for four generations, the shop is famous for crafting all kinds of headwear, from Panama hats to wide brims and boaters. With gourmet stops, artisan gems, souvenir shops and ready-to-wear boutiques, Rue Meynadier is without a doubt one of Cannes’ top spots for smart, enjoyable shopping. And by the way, do you know where the street gets its name from? Since 1933, it has honoured Lieutenant Théophile Meynadier and his son, Captain Roger Meynadier, both of whom died on the battlefield during the First and Second World Wars. Their family, in fact, is one of the oldest established in Cannes.
