View from the ramparts

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Caen, Home of William and Matilda
Don’t hesitate to climb all the ramparts where ever you can find an access point – it’s the best way to enjoy the view over the city. Caen Castle is currently undergoing a major redevelopment project. The work is due to be completed in 2025, just in time for the millennium celebrations! It was in 1025 that the first official mention of “Cadomus”, one of the town’s ancient names, can be found. This project to enhance the castle grounds will create a landscaped park and allow visitors to make the most of this exceptional heritage, with the creation of a new building dedicated to welcoming the public. If you want to explore all this, you’ll have to come back in a few years! Here, you can admire Saint-Pierre church, as well as the strange sculpture park inside the ramparts. You can’t miss this bestiary of strange animals perched on wooden posts! It’s a sort of extension to the Fine Arts Museum and the work of Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping.
