Ecuyère street

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Caen, Home of William and Matilda
In France, and especially in the north, many towns have their own drinking spots. Écuyère Street, which opens up on your left, is a beautiful, picturesque street in Caen where you’ll find a host of bars and restaurants. It has been ranked the 5th most densely populated drinking street in France 🙂 There’s about 1 bar every 19 metres. However, it was the street of antique dealers until the 90s! There were around fifteen of them in the Écuyère street. There are still a few left today, and they undoubtedly add to the charm of this beautiful pedestrianised street. You may also have spotted Caen’s former Courthouse on the Fontette square. It was built at the end of the 18th century in a neoclassical style and has been decommissioned since 2015, when the court moved to the new Courthouse. A few years later, the city of Caen became the owner of the building and announced that it would be transformed into a luxury mansion, due to open in 2026.
