Güemes Gallery

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Buenos Aires, The soul of Argentina
On your right, you’ll see the entrance to the Güemes Gallery. It may not look like it from the outside, but it’s made up of beautiful European-style covered galleries, inaugurated in 1915 and decorated in a stunning Art Deco style. Think glass roofs, domes, sculpted walls, and even extravagant elevators – the whole shebang. They completely renovated the place in 2007, and it’s definitely worth a look if you’re passing by. There’s even a lookout point (mirador) on the top floor for one of the best views in the city; know, however, that there’s a fee to go up. The galleries themselves are only part of the building, but the whole thing came to be known as Galeria Güemes. Fun fact: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the famous author, actually lived here when he was working for the Aéropostale, a pioneering aviation company, in Argentina. Get this: he shared his apartment with a baby seal that he kept in his bathtub! True story! This is also where he wrote his novel “Night Flight”. I’ll leave you to follow in the footsteps of this local legend and explore the grounds. Who knows, maybe you’ll even feel inspired to head up to the 14th floor for the breathtaking city views!
