Gran Rex Theater

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Buenos Aires, The soul of Argentina
Look to your right and you’ll see a grand Art Deco-style theater. It’s the Gran Rex theater, the city’s main cultural venue. It can seat 3,300 people and it’s the country’s largest cinema. The theater was built in 1937 by architect Alberto Prebisch, who also designed the Obelisk in the Plaza de la República. Fun fact: its interior was modeled on the Radio City Music Hall in New York! The grand opening was a huge hit and, even today, the theater remains one of the city’s major venues for international performances.
