Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Buenos Aires, A stroll through the city’s beautiful neighborhoods

From here, you have an unobstructed view of the area and the park of the San Martín square. The tower straight ahead is the Torre Monumental, the Monumental Tower, formerly known as the Torre de los Ingleses, the Tower of the English. It was renamed after the Falklands War, as was the square on which it stands, the former British square, now known as the Argentine Air Force Square. The tower was built by British residents to celebrate the centenary of the May Revolution in Argentina. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice a frieze with the various emblems of the British Empire, including the rose of the House of Tudor, the red dragon of Wales and the shamrock of Ireland. Now on to the large building lining the east side of the park. It’s the Kavanagh building, constructed in 1936 and listed as a historical monument in 1999. It’s also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Back then, it was the tallest skyscraper in South America, and the only one to have state-of-the-art amenities such as air conditioning, cold rooms and a telephone system. Plus, because of its unique design, some floors are of a different length, and they’ve taken advantage of this to create lovely terraces and gardens. It was even voted the most beautiful building in Buenos Aires by a group of 600 architecture experts.
