Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Brisbane, Slow life and cool attitude in the Sunshine state
A picturesque landmark set against a modern backdrop, the Albert Street Uniting Church holds huge significance in Brisbane. Its inauguration in 1849, under the leadership of John Petrie, the city’s very first mayor, marked the introduction of Methodism to the neighbourhood and beyond. This religious movement, followed by nearly 80 million people worldwide, is a branch of Protestantism that emphasises personal holiness and a highly disciplined Christian life. As the congregation grew in Brisbane, the Albert Street Uniting Church was relocated here to allow for expansion. Over time, the once-modest chapel evolved into a grand Gothic-style church, built with brick to survive the subtropical climate. With its graceful lines and beautiful wrought iron finial, the 42-metre octagonal spire is the most distinct feature of this 160-year-old church.
