Fountain House

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Brest, Capital of the Oceans
This is one of Brest’s oldest houses! It was built in Logonna yellow stone, black kersantite and pink granite, and is believed to date from the 18th century, although some might disagree. In fact, several 17th-century city maps show a building already standing here a century earlier. It’s hard to say whether it’s the same house or not. Whatever the case, it’s of great historical importance, as it’s one of the few buildings in the city to have survived the bombings of World War II. So-named because of its 18th-century fountain, the house was once part of the Recouvrance hospital, and has since become an artistic and cultural hub, hosting exhibitions and accommodating artists.
