Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Bourges, To brave hearts, nothing is impossible

Check out the impressive building on your left. It’s the Hôtel des Postes. In 1912, the decision was taken to build a structure to house the Post Office, to the designs of architect Henri Tarlier. As war broke out in 1914, construction work was halted, and not resumed until 1919. This building project caused quite the stir and took over 12 years to finish! It was finally inaugurated in 1926 by Mayor Henri Laudier, who fought hard for its construction. The building itself is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture, reminiscent of the city’s heyday in the 14th and 15th centuries. Right next to the building, there’s a small square built in 1926. Here, you’ll find a statue of King Louis XI, born in Bourges, designed by local sculptor Jean Baffier. Now on to Rue Moyenne.
