This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Bourges, To brave hearts, nothing is impossible

On your left, behind the gates, you’ll find the Hôtel Lallemant, a former private mansion. Today, it houses the fascinating Museum of Decorative Arts. This beautiful building is a fine example of French Renaissance architecture, with some Gothic touches here and there. We owe it to the Lallemant brothers, members of a wealthy Bourges family. Rumor has it that they even hired an Italian artist to help out, as can be seen from the finesse and craftsmanship of the building’s decor. It was built right on the Gallo-Roman ramparts, on the site of an old building destroyed by the great fire of Bourges in 1487. It is believed to be the very first Renaissance building in the city. The building was completed at the beginning of the 16th century, and houses numerous works of art in an exceptional setting, that of a private mansion richly decorated with furniture dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Be sure to visit the museum to discover its various collections and exhibitions. You won’t regret it!
