Alluye Mansion

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Blois, Castle life in the Loire Valley
From the 15th to the 16th century, Blois was the royal capital under Louis XII and saw the construction of numerous mansions to accommodate the royal court. Among them was the Alluye Mansion, on your right. This 30-meter-wide building has changed hands many times over the centuries. It was listed as a historical monument in 1929 and converted into several luxury apartments in 2007. Contrary to popular belief, the Alluye Mansion is more than just another Renaissance-style building. You see, its history is tied to a powerful name, that of Florimond Robertet, Count of Alluye and royal treasurer. He’s the one who had the edifice built. You can see his coat of arms and initials just between the entrance portal and the window above it. Constructed in the 16th century, between 1500 and 1508, the Alluye Mansion stood out for its bold style and elegance. Though much of its original structure has been lost to time, it remains one of the greatest landmarks on Saint Honoré Street. You can’t miss it. It’s a real eye-catcher!
