Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Biarritz, The queen of beaches and the beach of kings

Here’s a tip for Basque food lovers: just 150m away, in the Victor Hugo avenue on your left, you’ll find the Biarritz covered market. No visit to any city in France is complete without a stop in its gastronomic hub! Luckily for you, Biarritz has gathered its specialties within the walls of a beautiful vintage covered market. In 1885,Biarritz was booming i and markets couldn’t be left on the streets at the mercy of dust and weather. The idea was to build beautiful covered markets, like those found in Europe’s major cities. The Jeu de Paume site, which was no longer in use anyway, was reclaimed, and architect Alexandre Ozanne drew up plans for a large brick covered market surrounded by skylights to let in the light. As Napoleon III, was keenly interested in the city’s beautification projects, he personally helped finance the project. Nowadays, the covered market is a must for gourmets. Here, you’ll find local specialities such as seafood, cheeses, hams and Basque charcuterie, in a friendly atmosphere of sharing authenticity and know-how. Feel free to visit now or come back when you’re hungry. For the mean time, let’s take the street on your right to visit Bellevue Square.
