The Ephraim Palace

This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Berlin, A symbolic and dynamic capital
The beautiful building you see on the corner is the Ephraim Palace. Built in 1762 in a Rococo style, it is characterized by its abundant curves and decorations. Its grandeur is no coincidence as it was designed for the King of Prussia’s royal jeweler and financier! With its balustrades crowned with cherubs and a stunning spiral staircase, it was soon known as the most beautiful building in Berlin.
The structure you see today is actually a replica of the original as it was part of the Saint Nicholas’ Quarter restoration. Despite this, the Ephraim Palace is still considered as one of Berlin’s most refined architectural gems. Today, it houses a city museum and hosts temporary exhibitions in collaboration with the State Archives, focusing on Berlin’s cultural and political history.
