The Berlin Television Tower

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Berlin, A symbolic and dynamic capital
The TV Tower near Alexanderplatz is one of the most iconic buildings in Berlin’s skyline, and arguably the most visible at 368 meters high. When it opened in 1969, it was ranked as the third tallest structure in the world. Built in only four years, the tower is made of 26,000 tons of concrete and features a sphere inspired by the Soviet satellite Sputnik. It was designed to symbolically represent the supposed superiority of the communist system as a way to show the world that, after 20 years of existence, East Germany was building a bright future.
Even though East Germany is now history, the tower remains a huge attraction in Berlin that receives over a million visitors each year. Accessible in just 40 seconds via an express elevator, the observation deck offers a breathtaking view of the German capital at 200 meters above the ground. From up here, you can easily spot Berlin’s most famous buildings as well as its many green spaces, such as Tempelhof Park that is built on an abandoned airport.
At the top, a revolving restaurant and a panoramic bar make the perfect spot to relax while admiring the city stretched out beneath your feet.
