Schonhauser Allee Station

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Berlin, A symbolic and dynamic capital
Now standing at the junction between Neue Schönhauser Strasse and Alte Schönhauser Strasse, in the Mitte district. The name Mitte means “middle” or “center,” as this is indeed Berlin’s city center. This iconic street was first mentioned in the 18th century, as it developed just beyond the medieval walls of Berlin, running alongside the city’s ramparts. By the 19th century, it had become a major commercial and urban artery, many buildings from that period still stand here today. After Berlin was divided, Mitte fell under Soviet control. However, the street experienced a real economic boom upon reunification. Several historic buildings were restored, and investors, shop owners, and creatives were lured to the area which led to the opening of many boutiques, cafés, restaurants, and art galleries. Today, this rejuvenated neighborhood is one of Berlin’s trendiest spots. Feel free to wander the nearby streets, heading toward Torstrasse or up along Schönhauser Allee which is a particularly popular shopping place. You’ll find everything from designer boutiques and organic shops to art galleries and stylish restaurants.
