Hackesche Höfe

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Berlin, A symbolic and dynamic capital
You are now entering the famous Hackesche Höfe, a series of interconnected courtyards, each with its own unique style. Located in the heart of one of Berlin’s liveliest neighborhoods, this is one of the city’s most popular tourist sites, waiting to be explored. These eight interlinked courtyards form the largest enclosed courtyard complex in Germany and have been listed as a historical monument since 1972. They were built in 1906, based on plans made by German architect Kurt Berndt. The beautiful Art Nouveau façade you’ll soon see was designed by August Endell, who is to Berlin what Victor Horta is to Brussels, Antoni Gaudí to Barcelona, and Hector Guimard to Paris. If these names don’t ring a bell, simply know that Endell is considered one of Jugendstil’s founding figures, meaning “youth style,” which is the German counterpart to Art Nouveau. Since their costly renovation in the 90s, the courtyards have become a vibrant mix of residences, bars, restaurants, designer shops, theaters, museums, and cinemas. In a context of renewal and hope within reunified Germany, people sought innovation, revitalisation and new beginnings. Today, Hackesche Höfe is the perfect place to culturally immerse yourself into Berlin’s hustle and bustle. Take your time to explore at your own pace, wander anywhere that catches your attention, and enjoy the peaceful gardens tucked away in the rear courtyards.
