Cases Ramos

As you arrive at Plaça Lesseps, look to your left and take a moment to admire the striking Cases Ramos. This was the first Modernist building in Gràcia, constructed in 1906, just a few years after the town officially became part of Barcelona. What you’re seeing is actually three separate buildings, all brought together under one spectacular façade designed by architect Jaume Torres i Grau. Deeply influenced by the Modernist style that was taking the city by storm, he brought to life a residence both elegant and full of character. It was commissioned by Ricardo Ramos, a shipowner, who requested five floors and lush gardens at the back. Now, take a closer look at the façade — it’s full of naturalist details, typical of the era. Don’t miss the central balcony with its wrought iron bees, a delicate tribute to nature and craftsmanship. And finally, here’s a little film trivia: If you’ve seen Pedro Almodóvar’s “All About My Mother”, most of it was filmed right here. So if you’re curious to see what it looks like inside — the movie’s a great way to discover!
