Casa Comalat

Ce point d’intérêt est disponible en audio dans le circuit: Visit Barcelone, Through Gaudí’s eyes
You’re now standing in front of one of Barcelona’s most beautiful Modernist houses: Casa Comalat. Commissioned by Señor Comalat, the building was designed by Salvador Valeri i Pupurull, an architect who made no secret of his admiration for Gaudí. You can easily see it here — this house is a real tribute to the master’s signature style. One of its most unique features is that it has two completely different façades. The one in front of you now — technically the back of the building — is a playful burst of curves and colour, clearly taking inspiration from Casa Batlló. The main façade, facing Avinguda Diagonal, is quite different: made of stone, it’s more symmetrical and filled with ornate sculptural details. Its grand wooden entrance, framed by elegant balconies, could easily be mistaken for something straight out of Gaudí’s sketchbook. I must warn you though to not enter — the building is privately owned and not open to the public. That said, if you walk all the way around to see both façades, don’t miss what’s just across the street on Avinguda Diagonal: the Palau del Baró de Quadras. Another gem of Modernist architecture, this former palace now houses a foundation — so unlike Casa Comalat, you can step inside. Be sure to peek into the vestibule — the interior décor is well worth a look!
