This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Bangkok, A spiritual reawakening and more…

You cannot miss the Grand Palace, Bangkok’s most iconic landmark, spanning 29 hectares. King Rama I ordered its construction in May 1782, and he moved in a month later during his coronation ceremony. It was initially built from wood and logs, as this was all that the dynasty could afford. Over time and successive reigns, the site was fortified with four 2,000-metre long perimeter walls, several forts, and a dozen gates—three of which were heavily reinforced. The palace’s many eclectic buildings, pavilions, and halls reflect over 200 years of royal reconstructions. Today, the Grand Palace still houses some of the King’s functions, while other parts are open to the public. Inside, you can discover its four courtyards, the throne hall, a small weapons museum, the Royal Household Bureau, the King’s residence, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The Grand Palace is one of Bangkok’s most breathtaking attractions, with over a hundred structures. You’ll need at least 2 hours to explore everything this site has to offer! Just remember to follow the strict dress code. You’re not allowed to wear any see-through clothes, nor to expose your shoulders, legs, or feet.
