This point of interest is available as audio on the tour: Visit Bangkok, A spiritual reawakening and more…
As a little sightseeing break, here are 3 fun facts about Bangkok’s beautiful culture! First off, did you know that the Thai capital holds the record for the world’s longest city name? Although we call it Bangkok, its full ceremonial name is 169 characters long. Unsurprisingly, the locals decided to shorten this to its first two words: Krung Thep, meaning “City of Angels”. The full version translates to: “Great City of Immortals, Magnificent City of the Nine Gems, Seat of the King, City of Royal Palaces, Home of Incarnate Gods, Built by Vishvakarman at the behest of Indra”. Quite the mouthful! Secondly, the world-famous energy drink that gives you wings was created in Bangkok in 1976. And guess what? The original version is still sold here, alongside the newer one. Try both and see which one you prefer! Finally, every temple on the back of Thailand’s baht coins can be visited in a single day in Bangkok. It’s like a mini treasure hunt through the city’s greatest architecture! Don’t tell us this hasn’t made you even more curious…
